Halibut Head is a band from Sacramento trying to revive the ‘90s East Bay punk sound that poured out of the doors of 924 Gilman. Kane plays drums, Dame sings and plays guitar, and Chase sings and plays bass. Halibut Head was formed in 2020 when Dame was bored and bought a guitar from a pawn shop. Dame had just moved to Davis from Ventura so there was really nothing else better to do. Not too long after that, Quarter Bob was written; a homesick homage to Ventura’s legendary homeless man. The first iteration of Halibut Head was Dame on guitar and vocals, Dewey on bass, and Hide on drums. After a Covid livestream KDVS festival and a house party, Hide moved back to Japan and Dewey started focusing on some other sick projects. Shortly after, June took over on bass and Chris took over on drums. It would be this lineup that released the Quarter Bob E.P. and Shrimpcrine. Looking to further cement the band into Sacramento’s scene, Chase (right) took over on bass and vocals, and Kane (left) took over on drums. The current lineup has released two cover singles with Rose & Thorn E.P. on the way.
